Christmas postcard inspired by a beautiful old advertising poster dated ca. 1898. The artist may possibly be American illustrator Frances Brundage (1854–1937). The poster shows Santa Claus with a red cap and holly in his hair looking at a baby on his left shoulder. Remarkable about this Christmas picture is that both Santa and the baby are so carefully portrayed. Santa is a very old man with an intricate network of wrinkles and eyes that seem to have lost their brightness perhaps due to cataracts. The baby is also faithfully depicted (maybe a little too stereotypically cute with iclear blue eyes and golden curls)but the contrast between the very old and the very young is rather moving. Another thing that I like about this picture is that Santa and the baby seems to be sharing a moment of fun while the baby is examining the some strands of Santa's enormous beard.
